How anyone identifies such pathetic seedlings, let alone an Epilobium ... however, these letters a, b, f etc I am sure refer to catalogue numbers of varieties, subspecies etc in a Flora (eg London Catalogue); and the illegible bit after is the author name (eg Linnaeus etc). I haven't found this variety name however, which is doubtless obsolete.
