I've been intrigued by this collector since i started doing the Bolton Museum collection....
Not sure how he should be documented in the Wiki?
he appears to have been
Charles Ottley Groom-Napier
(1839-1894)
There is an interesting set of information at http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=370
The mineralogical Record Biographical archive
The Mineralogical Record - Label Archive
M. & M.” were said to have been written by a relative of his who became Prince of Mantua and Montferrat. This, as with much of his history, is questionable. ...

He is also mention in two pieces of correspondance with T H Huxley at the Imperial archive (a committe of his awarded a medal to huxley which he declined , impolitely ... The medal still arrived) _________________ L FFFF SSS

I recently realised that 'F Y Brocas' and the Prince of M&M could be the same person - have put an item in this section of H@H about it - seeing the museum labels in your attached article seems to clinch it? |
