N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for posting about this. I've updated the specimen, but your report also highlighted a wider problem where some sheets where incorrectly being listed under a name that was already marked as obsolete. This affected 64 sheets, which I've now updated.

In general I've tried to list plants according to their name in Kent (List of Vascular Plants of the British Isles) (+later revisions). For the Shrewsbury school specimens this required a fair bit of work, as they were filed according to the London Catalogue (9th Ed. published 1895), so often not remotely in accordance with currently accepted nomenclature.

To make the conversion I scanned a copy of the LC adding all the names to the system's taxon dictionary, then tried to match the old names with the current Kent equivalent. This means that when things are working properly plants filed according to the obsolete scheme should be listed under a current name with the old name also listed (as a non-preferred name). I've no idea how some sheets, such as this one slipped through.

There will also be some cases where I've not yet added a match for the old name, so if you spot obsolete names then let me know as this will also help in the future when other collections are uploaded and need to be matched to current names.

regards,

Tom.
