N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

isn't this specimen Dryopteris submontana rather than D. oreades?

With those conspicuous lanceolate scales going right up the rhachis, (also pinnule outline) I'd agree. The limestone habitat is a bit suggestive, too!

The question then is, where is the location? There is no mountain limestone at Halton in Lancashire and I wonder if this specimen comes from Halton Height in Yorkshire SE027548, though there are no other records of D. submontana from there.

Just up the road from Halton is Nether Kellet where there are limestone quarries see http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/environment/landscape/landscapecharacass/charcarea13.asp

a) it's Dalton Crag, SD5576

b) the collector called it L. rigida = D. submontana
