N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

A possibility ... Have you looked at A Carr's http://herbariaunited.org/collector/2240/ specimens from Sheffield in the early 1870s - his writing is a bit variable but some looks a pretty close match e.g. http://herbariaunited.org/sheets/BIRM/3213.jpg

Thanks for the idea but I am not convinced by that either! The 'S' s are different and the word Sheffield really doesn't match my Sheafield, does it? Both labels are written with a thick nib and ink, I agree.

Yes, much more likely, thank you.
What about http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/281519/ as the same collector? the Viola label probably a field note?

Mmmm, think I might be inclined to wait for a few more sheets until I get a feeling for the handwriting in the SLBI collection.

Yes, thanks to all for your input. Am I safe in putting Townsend as collector. His field scribble?
