M gracilis and gentilis are now both called M x gracilis Sole in Stace 2.

FWIW I would think all the refs to Sole are to his taxonomic diagnoses and that the quote with his initials is just that - a quote? (referring to his Mentha book/paper?)
Perhaps there is more info on Mrs Henstead "at the back of this label"?
