Has anyone got a grid ref for Pont Esgob? There are many H@H sheets from there (all collected by A Ley) but none with a grid ref

"In the heart of the Black Mountains, Pont Esgob is a Listed 17th century cottage"
SO284212
It is right on the edge of Herefordshire I think

Thanks - I am still finding a puzzle here though ... The Pont Esgob with this grid ref is not in Herefordshire, but in Breconshire; just over the border from Monmouthshire and so nowhere close to Herefordshire. Ley seems to have been faultless on his geography - his old OS maps must have been well-worn and many-times folded! The necessary local knowledge eludes me, despite often visiting in the past the Partrishow area of you ref !

David Price sorted this out for me some time ago. Purchas and Ley "annexed" a bit of Mons to Herefords called the Ffwnog in District 14. See
http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=a_AYAAAAYAAJ&dq=flora+of+herefordshire&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=QD1XyZ0ZBS&sig=BVpiGlTY8mzfHpVzQ4qkHSa-alE&hl=en&ei=GLS-SayoJcGltgfwg8H4Cw&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result#v=onepage&q&f=false
The info is on P 23.
Hope this helps
Sarah

Thanks! Would Tom or anyone be brave enough to edit this in to the Pont Esgob sheets? Quite a few - and needs deciding whether to enter as VC Brec

I think "Let sleeping dogs ...... " is the best policy. Pont Yspig (the bridge) straddles the Grwyne Fawr (the river and County boundary) and Pont Esgob could be either Pont Esgob Mill (on the Brecs side) or Pont Esgob Farm (on the Mons side). Let old Ley have the last word and keep it Herefordshire. Readers of modern Floras will not be troubled.
