N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Any thoughts on the locale mentioned. The only Middle Hill I find in any reference is near Chalford, but I cannot find an OS reference...

That is brilliant. I cannot seem to get the OS site to cough up these gems either from the gazetteer or the Get a Map pages, although as UK place names it seems that the site ought to do so. Any guidance would be most appreciated for future use... Regards, ken kopp

The OS and Get-a-Map gazetteers are fairly patchy in what they cover. I tend to try them first, but after that google is often much more reliable.

I tend to google for 'placename, county' or 'placename, county grid ref'

If useful grid refs don't come up then it's also worth trying to spot post codes for likely sounding places from the search results. You can enter post codes in a Get-a-Map to find the corresponding grid reference.

Unfortunately you are probably at a disadvantage with google, as search results are often subject to geo-targetting - so you may get search results with an American bias - I'm not sure how large that effect is.
