N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Painter has several specimens from Clanach Valley which I can't locate - all his specimens that month are from Cardiganshire

Could this read Clarach? There's village, a bay and river, N of Aberystwyth.
Village at OS SN602836.

Given all Painter's other specimens at the time, I think there can be little doubt - thanks! He has a host of specimens from here, all labelled in the same maddening way - perhaps he couldn't read his own diary - eg: http://herbariaunited.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=810
