N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

V arvensis again! It seems there is a complex between V arvensis and V tricolor with many intermediate forms and these names are Jordan's attempt to rationalise them.

The only Jordan name that Stace [Eds 2 & 3} recognises is V x contempta [V. tricolor x V arvensis] but he says that "variants of both parents, but mainly V arvensis, resemble it."

I found a letter from Watson to Darwin saying "[Hooker]...would reduce the species of Vascular plants to three score thousand, or perhaps much fewer;—while Jordan would raise them to three hundred thousand."

Obviously a "splitter" par excellence!
