N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Could it be that after N Wales, it reads Mr Mitten (who appears in the collectors list) and then it says Hort Croydon - rather like the sample of handwriting for A Bennett ??

Thanks for that. I wonder what the hort croyden means. Do you think he really grew it in Croyden?

I have come across a couple of sheets which appear to indicate he has grown bits and pieces - roots from Cumberland etc, so who knows? It would be interesting to have some potted biographies of these early collectors.
Regards

It would seem that he was in the habit of growing bits in his 'back garden' or his pond in this case (Potamogeton x lanceolatus). The following quote is from Watsonia 17
Bennett cultivated the Burwell plant in a small pond in his Croydon garden - it "flourished remarkably" and he was able to distribute 200 specimens
of cultivated material (Bennett 1925). The plate in Fryer & Bennett (1915) is based upon Cambridgeshire material.
