I agree it could be Queensferry but his time-line only shows VC 15 and 58. He did not appear to work anywhere else.

There would appear to be a number of 'profiles' in the database (and associated sheets) for Henry / Harry Searle / H Searle - probably one in the same person. Unfortunately, Desmond's Dictionary of British and Irish Botanists and Horticultalists only records his dates (as here 1844-1935), and offers no further information. However, a bit of searching suggests a Harry Searle, who was born in March (Cambridgeshire) about that date who went on to become a cabinet maker and medical botanist, who lived [towards the end of the century] in the Oldham area (a number of the specimens were collected in the Lancashire area at that time). This Harry Searle is to be found some years later in Middleton, Lancs, where the 'last' Searle H@H specimen is dated as 1902.

I've merged the various H Searle name variants into a [url=]single entry[/url] (hopefully this is correct - they can be unmerged if found to represent distinct people).

I suspect that many of Searle sheets that are ex herb Painter were not collected by Searle, but instead were part of his collection that was later acquired by Painter.
