Lowne/Lowne and Hooker/Hooker

In some cases the H@H offers us synonym father and son pairs. The name initially appearing may not be consistent with the date on the herbarium sheet. Sometimes, only on investigation is the other person found.
B T Lowne - Benjamin Thompson Lowne (1839- ) or Benjamin Thompson Lowne (1878-1956)
Herb Hookerianum - Sir William Jackson Hooker (1785-1865) or Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker (1817-1911)

My question being, do we know which is usually correct? I have also come across 'BTL senior' who predates either of the above.
A similar example is 'Hutchinson Bequest' which I understand refers to R R Hutchinson (1870 - 1951), yet the H@H system displays Rev Thomas Hutchinson (1815 - 1903)

David Price writes re an Isle of Wight specimen with the usual herb Hookerianum 1867 stamp:

'I think the Hooker referred to must be W.J.Hooker (died 1865) and that he and Bromfield were joint collectors of this specimen;
CLL sent me the following helpful note -
The Flora of the Isle of Wight was printed by Sir W. J. Hooker and Dr. Bell Salter in 1856, under the title of Flora Vectensis, in 8vo, with a topographical map and portrait of the author, William Bromfield.'

This indicates a Herbarium may be dated 2 years after the person's death

I had understood "Herbarium Hookerianum 1867" to describe W J Hooker's herbarium arranged and presented by J D Hooker; that it was done post mortem WJH is not very remarkable.
