The trees in the Botanic Garden were planted in the Eighteenth Century.

Neither http://www.wbrc.org.uk/WORCRECD/Issue7/whittyp.htm nor similar sites mention any other specimens in Oxford.

The trees in the gardens are said to be seedlings of the Wyre Forest tree, planted by Sibthorp.

Could 'quasi-naturalised ' be the classic error of mistaking suckers for seedlings? Suckers could be abundant if the ground is cultivated / disturbed
