N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Hi,this is my first sheet and I would like to confirm the detail before submitting it as completed please? I am assuming that where the record says from C Evenson, Esq that this is what I should record in the herbarium field? I do not get an auto complete pop up when i enter that name so thought I would check! Also as there is no date do I leave that field blank or assume 19th century? Many thanks, Kelly.

Hi Kelly,

Welcome to herb@home.

Adding 'C Evenson' as an ex herb entry is probably the right thing for this specimen, even though it's a bit ambiguous. Having all the people associated with a specimen recorded is useful when searching for related sheets or for trying to infer details later.

Please leave the date blank, so that date fields only get used to record information that's actually present on the label. It's often possible to use the database to infer approximate date ranges later, based on the date-of-death of collectors etc., but that only works automatically for specimens that have blank date fields.

regards,

Tom
