N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

The note "Herb Bromfield" at the foot of the sheet and the presence together in the Isle of Wight in October 1847 of Hooker (but which Hooker?) and Bromfield (http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/342410/) inclines me to read "Sandown" rather than Lansdowne.

I think the Hooker referred to must be W.J.Hooker (died 1865) and that he and Bromfield were joint collectors of this specimen.

CLL sent me the following helpful note -

"The Flora of the Isle of Wight was printed by Sir W. J. Hooker and Dr. Bell Salter in 1856, under the title of Flora Vectensis, in 8vo, with a topographical map and portrait of the author, William Bromfield. Bromfield's manuscript of the Flora of Hampshire was never published. The Bromfield Herbarium (There are two herbaria - the other being housed at Kew) came into the care of the Hampshire County Council Museums Service in 2001. His manuscripts are in the library of the Royal Kew Gardens".
