N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

no collector. I used to live near here - Goring Woods are actually nowhere near Goring in W Sussex! Pacthing is the nearest village. SP

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for that info. There were quite a lot of records from the same collector referencing Goring Woods, so I've created it as a separate locality (TQ091049) and updated the records affected (most of which where previously not referring to the correct site).

There are quite a lot sheets of this style, some of which have H H Haines penciled on. However the handwriting style does not match that of Henry Hasslethorp Haines, so the collector remains a mystery (unfortunately I've incorrectly attributed many of the sheets to him - which is something I need to correct).

regards,

Tom

Hi Tom

Thanks for that. Sadly, most of Goring Woods is gone now and one of the last areas is due a bypass and associated development fairly soon. It was unfait of me to say that the woods are NOWHERE near Goring, but they are well to the NW and Patching is much nearer. The name probably is associated with the land-owning family, who are the Gorings.

Best Wishes
Sarah
