There seems to be a reference at the foot of the label to 'A Bennett'. I cannot fit any of the Bennetts in the database to this date/handwriting. Or is the date itself in doubt as it is in quotes: "1842"?

Arthur Bennett lived and worked in High Street, Croydon - the last line of writing is his script.

Thanks, but the database has Arthur Bennett being born in 1843, the date on the label is "1842" (in quotes). I'm confused!

Yes, I appreciate that the date does not match with his 'lifeline' - but the last line of writing is almost certainly his, cf image below

I think that the original writing is not him but perhaps H C Watson - maybe Bennett acquired the sheet ???
