N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Black Mere Shropshire is on the gazetteer, but I couldn't find on map .... unless same as Blake Mere near Whitchurch

The Whitchurch one looks good. On the Blakemere Leisure site http://www.blakemere-leisure.co.uk/the-lake it says:

"Blakemere was referred to years ago as 'Black Mere' due to its peaty water colour . It was formed in the ice ages along with most of the other Shropshire meres ."

Not so good to read that they propose to dig out some of the marshland around the lake!

Thanks, that seems very clear - unlike the mere. I'll edit accordingly (with just slight note of caution). What possible benefit can there be to dig out marshland - to enlarge a (natural) peat lake which presumably wouldn't even hold much aquatic life unless fish food were added!
