N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Again any sheet in this handwriting from Sussex or adjacent counties (although he collected further afield as well), and with the distinctive date style is likely to be J Woods - so 47821 refers to 21/8/1847. Chichester is in the SU80 hectad.

Hi elastic,

I've added some more details, (some of which were on the sheet):

There's a Frederick Townsend stamp in the top left-hand corner.

I've updated the location to include more details. You'd entered 'Chichester Creek' in the place name field, without completing the region or country. Although your details were correct, the specimen would have been hard to find if someone searched for it because of the lack of county details. Where possible please pick a predefined locality from the drop-down lists because that makes things much easier - it automatically fills in the county and also usually associates an approximate grid-reference.
Although 'Chichester Creek' wasn't on the list 'Chichester' was. That's probably a close enough match to use, adding the precise details: "Chichester Creek, slender bar" to the locality notes.

The collector and date would have been impossible to deduce without having seen similar sheets already. The clue was the strange date format '47821' which is typical of Joseph Woods - who tended to write dates in reverse order without punctuation, so that this sheet is dated 21st August 1847 (Woods mostly collected between 1825 and 1860).

Tom
