Biography
Emeritus Professor Brian William Fox was born in Ammanford in North Wales in 1929 but moved to Lancashire with his family in 1941. He had a distinguished career in cancer drug research at The Christie Hospital, Manchester.
In the 1950s he lived at 287 Bolton Road, Atherton, Manchester.
In his leisure time he pursued an interest in botany and helped to record plants and collected voucher specimens for the publication Travis’s Flora of South Lancashire, published in 1963. He died in 1999.
He donated about 1,000 botanical specimens, collected mostly from the Lancashire area in the 1950’s and 1960’s, to Bolton Museum in 1984.
