Biography
Born at Stoke-on-Trent, England, on 15 December 1915.
Educated and first employed at Municipal Elictricity Authority in Stoke-on-Trent.
Called up into RAF 1940. Saw action in the Mediterranean.
1945 resumed work for Municipal Elictricity Authority in Stoke-on-Trent.
Took science degree at Manchester University - 1st class honours, 1948.
Assistant Lecturer in Botany receiving PhD in 1952.
1953 took up post of Senior Lecturer in Botany at Melbourne University.
1955 Married Stella Grace Maisie Fawcett.
1958-1960 Reader of Botany at the University of Melbourne.
1960-1967 Professor of Botany at Queen's University in Belfast.
1968-1980 Professor of Developmental Biology at the Research School of Biological Sciences, Australian National University in Canberra.
1970 Description of the Eucalyptus roycei (with S. G. M. Carr, D. J. Can & A. S. George. Carr was also joint collector of the type material).
1980 retired but remained Emeritus Professor.
Died in Canberra on 19 July 2008.
