Biography
Born Maidstone, Kent and started work in the building trade, but ran away and became a gardener.
After jobs in various nurseries, including Messrs F. Sanders & Co. St Albans, employed as 'improver gardener' at Cambridge University Botanic Garden 1895-1898.
Worked at Kew Gardens 1898-99.
Returned to Cambridge University Botanic Garden 1899-1910.
First Garden Superintendent at the John Innes Horticultural Institution, Merton, 1910-1918.
Died 23 October 1918 during the flu epidemic.
