Edward Lhuyd (1660-1709)
Biography
Edward Lhuyd FRS (1659/60?-1709) philologist, palaeontologist, botanist. Succeeded Robert Plot as keeper of the Ashmolean Museum. Travelled throughout the British Isles; described by Sir Hans Sloane as the best naturalist in Europe. Commemorated in his discovery Lloydia serotina, the Snowdon Lily.
