Biography
1870 Born Chapel Allerton, Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire, son of Isaac Henry Burkill, of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
April 1882 - July 1888 Repton School (where John Hagger FLS was Writing Master).
1888 Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge.
1889 Frank Smart prize for Botany.
BA 1891. Walsingham Medal 1894 for a Botany essay. MA 1895.
1891 Curator, Cambridge Herbarium.
1899 Principal Assistant, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.
1901 Assistant, later officiating, Reporter on Economic Products in India.
1911 - 1912 Botanist on Abor Expedition.
1912 Director of Botanic Gardens Singapore and Penang.
1925 Retired to 'Clova', 43 The Mount, Leatherhead, Surrey.
Died 1965.
