Biography
Born 30 April 1807, Leitmeritz (now Litoměřice, Czech Republic) into a family with Austrian military traditions.
Collected in Germany and Italy.
Died 1849.
The orchid genus Koellensteinia, with the type species Koellensteinia kellneriana, was named in his honour.
His elder brother Friedrich Freiherr Kellner von Köllenstein (1802-1883) acheived even greater rank in the Austrian army, becoming an aide-de-camp of the Emperor Francis Joseph I. Friedrich had a son also called Karl.
