Oleg Vladimir Polunin (1914-1985)

Biography

Botanist and explorer. He had two brothers, botanist and ecologist Nicholas Vladimir Polunin (1909-1997), and photographer and ethnologist Ivan Polunin (1920-2010).

Born 28th November 1914 in Reading, the son of Vladimir Jacolievitch Polunin (1880–1957), an artist, and his wife, Elizabeth Violet Hart (1880–1950), from Kent.
After studying at Magdalen College in Oxford, he taught for more than 30 years in Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey.
In 1932 he received the HH Bloomer Award of the Linnean Society of London.
Died in 2nd July 1985.

Many publications including Flowers of Europe: a field guide, Oxford University Press, 1969.
