Owain Westmacott Richards (31/12/1901-10/11/1984)

Biography

Born in Croydon 1901.
Decided to become an entomologist at 'about the age of ten'.
1912 moved with his family to Cardiff and was sent as a boarder to Hereford Cathedral School, but at weekends at home he roamed the countryside on his bike collecting butterflies, and plant specimens for his youngest brother Paul Westmacott Richards.
1920 entered Oxford University.
1924 first in Zoology.
1927-1979 Imperial College London.
1931 married Maud J Norris.
1934 DSc from Oxford.
1953 professor.
1959 FRS.
Died 1984.
