As a non-computer person with a cheap laptop, I have found the following dodges - magnifying with a 'percentage' box in the corner of the screen - tilting the screen radically changes the darkness / contrast - I think there is a way also on the toolbar of doing this.

Thanks - just had another shot employing all of above and contrast settings etc but to no avail guess so if I can't blame the tools must be my eyesight! Therefore anticipate will have to continue to post similarly faint ones for your interpretation!
