N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Cannot trace Elchel; it is sometimes a person's surname.

I wonder if this is a mishearing/mistranscription of 'Hetchell Wood', OS SE377423, only about 2km from Scarcroft (VC64 Mid-west Yorkshire) where Stringer collected another specimen.

Sounds credible Smile

Another Stringer sheet:

looks tantalizingly readable, but I can't locate it.

Looked through some old texts, could not find any reference to an Elchell / Elchel Wood.

Hetchell Wood has been of interest for some time e.g.

Through Airedale from Goole to Malham (1891) J Gray
