The herbaria of Cherbourg are essentially based on the collections of two botanists: Auguste Le Jolis and Louis Corbiere. Since 2003, a restoration of the Herbarium Corbiere (estimated 100,000 specimens) was undertaken with financial support from ANDRA and DRAC Normandy. Computerization was preceded by mounting specimens on permanent paper. As of January 2009, 15,160 specimens had been included in the database.
