It's quite simple.

The P in Packer is made with two separate strokes of the pen; a short upright and an open-mouthed circular stroke.

The T after 'Duke' (or is it Dick?) is like the T in Tragopogon (at top of label) and is made with one unbroken line which descending forms the upright and reverses upwards and to the left before flattening out and continuing to the right to form the the crossbar of the letter.

I've taken the plunge and changed the J H P entries to Jethro Harris Teall - but further revisions are possible if that proves to be incorrect.

P / T : On http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/356429/ referred to in last message, MP and ECT are written quite differently; on http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/356571/ written similarly.

J H T - For all the pointers to J H Teall, consider however the name on http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/347606/?image

Yes, I'm worried that I was premature in picking Teall.

Apart from http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/351958/ are there other unambiguous Teall sheets?

(it's clear that at least some of the J H T sheets that I assigned to Teall are in fact Teesdale Confused )

I wondered at first why, when labelling specimens from 2 people with the same initials, they weren't named unambiguously. But now I see the Teall label is 1903, J H Teesdale's specimens being between 12 and 29 years earlier and perhaps labelled near that time.

I have posted snippets from the TWO Teesdales (Science Gossip etc), and the address(es) from census returns. I have asked the archivist to look for any association between Tealls and Teesdales and the College.

Perreau again? http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/331154/ M J P (P is clearly distinct from T in this label) - M Perreau seems to be the current favourite; he was collectiong some 30 years earlier, and this label suggests the college still kept his collection distinct. Collector E B Teesdale 1930
