N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

The suggestion is that Woods retired to Lewes about 1833, and, in deed, his East Sussex collections start that year. The specimens here (4 - 6) dated 16/9/1834 are Wood's last for that year, and from France. In retirement he was beginning to enjoy more foreign travel collecting in France May-September. During the year, however, the database reports specimens from his old home of Stoke Newington, and Surrey, but interspersed with the French ones. The labels from English sites in a much more flowing hand, and without his characteristic date style. Any ideas please on this dichotomy?

".... Woods's last for that year .... ". You are assuming that ALL his gatherings are documented on H@H.

It is possible that some labels have been "reconstructed" (erroneously) at a later date (from notebooks etc.). Remounting specimens and aggregating on one sheet specimens from different gatherings can also give rise to errors.

Our task is often archaeological!

There is a sheet, 358301, with two specimens, one with 'Stoke Newington' handwriting, the other with the typical 'Lewes', separated by 21 years!

Re the latter, I can see that the handwriting of the 1831 specimen might be Townsend's, but he wasn't born until 1822 so probably not the collector.
