From this era, there seem to be just 2 other Lyon collections on h@h currently, both from Scotland, one collected by G Lyon, I could get no clues from either. You are right about entering herb Bot Soc Ed

George Jasper Lyon (1818-1862) of Glasgow was a member of BSEd from 1837.
