This record is mentioned in Townsend [1884, 2nd Ed., 1904], Fl of Hants incl. the IW. as (district)V, (2) - "Var. V. banatica, Kit.", "Field outside Steyn wood, Bembridge 1900; Miss C. Palmer" (on the distribution DB as record/2cd4p9h.3622dr). Also as synonyms in Rayner, [1929] Suppl., to Fl. of Hants incl IW = Viola tricolor var. vectensis F. N. Williams • ÷)(Distrib' DB record/2cd4p9h.35asv8)
V, (2) - Bembridge; Miss Palmer, (Rep. B.E.C.., 1926). (This may be the same as Miss Palmer's 1900 rec., in Townsend). The authors of Fl of the IW [1978], Bevis et al, consider this to be the hybrid arvensis x tricolor (V. x contempta, Jordan.) and state that this has been recorded elsewhere in vc10, but not V. tri ssp tri.]. There are recent confirmed records of V. tricolor ssp tricolor. This still needs determining.
