Is it safe to assume that Mann, aged 20 in 1837 and living in Norwich, uses 'Thorpe' to refer to Thorpe next Norwich/Thorpe Saint Andrew (OS TG2609) rather than Thorpe near the Broads some 20km east (OS TM4398)? 'Meadows' could still be ambiguous as both places have meadows and marshes next to the rivers Yare and Waveney respectively.

His paper on the Flora of Central Norfolk has an amazing number of references to Thorpe St Andrew (The Magazine of natural history and journal of zoology, botany ..., Volume 4, 1840) (woods, marshes, meadows, Plumstead Road, Mousehold Heath, Whitlingham etc ) - where I used to live though a bit later Smile
