N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

'Leigh Down' seems likely to refer to the Leigh Woods area where Painter collected specimens same month - W of Clifton, Bristol, ST5673. However Leighdown is also a farm S of Winford to the SW of Bristol at ST542639, known for its stone circle, which is also Painter's area from when he lived at Knowle in S Bristol

James Walter White edited 'Flora of the Bristol Coal-Field' for the Bristol Naturalists' Society, published 1886, from contemporary and historical observations. The Flora does not give descriptions of sites in a way that makes them easy to locate on modern maps, but Leigh Wood and Leigh Down are mentioned separately. WH Painter was a member of this society, so must have been acquainted with their site nomenclature.

In one case the Flora gives Leigh Wood as 'by the Avon opposite Black Rock', (Black Rocks zoomed in on the OS), so equivalent to the modern wood of that name around OS ST5574.

Leigh Down on the other hand appears south of Longwood House cross-roads, near Failand, above Long Ashton, at ST5271, but, I think, only on the OS 1st Edition.
