Those sheets eg from PERTH, MANCH which can't be edited (& have no photo). Rather often a bloomer is very evident in the light of other sheets eg collector mis-spelt, wrong century, site conflated with one from a distant county. Wouldn't it be desirable if they could be either edited, or at least notes added? Alternatively, I propose we should notify them on this part of the message board? eg: http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/203427/ should clearly be A G Kenneth 1969 from comparison with other sheets. |

The 3 sheets clearly labelled M McNeill have all been ascribed to the picklist name M McNeil |

M McNeill should now be in the pick-list along with M McNeil.
I would have deleted 'McNeil', but although the labels clearly show the former, it is the latter which appears in the literature.
J. Bot. 1918 p. 109 has "Saxifraga groenlandica .... I have the same form from the Isle of Colonsay, v.c. 102, gathered by M. McNeil, who says it "covers a sun-dried pool near Strans." ... H.S.T. [H.S. Thompson].
D.E. Allen in "Variation in Peplis portula L." Watsonia 1954, 3, 85-91 [pdf] under VAR. LONGIDENTATA: lists "102. S. EBUDES: Isle of Colonsay, ante 1916, M. McNeil (N) and 1929, Mrs. Lockhead (K)."
Internet searches also find:
M McNeil (1910) "Colonsay: One of the Hebrides. It's Plants: Their Local Names and Uses",
...and "Mr M McNeil Gamekeeper Colonsay" as a source for Colonsay place-names. |
