N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

There are many Newports in Ireland, and many Irelands in Britain. But none of the Irelands in Britain seem to be near a Newport. During this week, Ley was not away from his home region apparently. He was in Chepstow on the same date, maybe suggesting Newport Mon, which is suitably maritime; I do not know of an Ireland there. The writing is not totally typical of Ley's perhaps. However no-one collected from a Newport on that date; and no-one collected in Ireland between 12th & 19th of that month!

I am puzzled by your comments, as http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/276033/ was the only other sheet documented, when I searched for Ley on this date on our database - and he was in Ireland! Co Mayo's looks to be the only Newport on the coast, so Hallucigenia's looks good? Question

Dear Sarah - thanks for checking this and thank goodness you did. After re-checking as per your comment, I found that in my attempts at forensic skill, I had entered the year 1887 in my search.....
