I guess JBP's "1858" is when he knew the specimen was collected, not a mistake for 1958... If so guess the second "54" date is when he checked it and not a catalogue number ...

Just to be contrary... 1858 is a Phipp's collection number, the collection date is 1954.

Thanks Tom, one lives and learns as usual - I hadn't thought to check if JBP collected anything himself - seems he was prolific if >1800 specimens out there! I've added a resulting query to the help board. Regards. Mike d'A
