For the Sussex specimen, I'm again suspecting/assuming Henry Ibbotson, see: http://herbariaunited.org/collector/2705/ where the handwriting sample seems identical - see the word'Bank' etc. Sussex/Lewes was the favoured area of C O Groom-Napier, when Prince of M&M was using that alias.
However, I found no Ibbotson specimens from the Sussex region that year, nearest Cornwall; and only one Sussex specimen - from a different year.
I suspect one reason could be that so many of his specimens are anonymous and so not readily accessible on the database. If anyone agrees with me about Ibbotson (who collected over most of Britain, but characteristically Ganthorpe), I might do a major trawl through specimens for his handwriting or other clues.
Meanwhile, I have not found anything about him from the Internet.

Well, I definitely defer to you on the Groom/Mantua sheets! I haven't really got to grips with them - like ferns, handwriting requires a better visual memory than I seem to have! I do read the notes you have been sending, but I try not to spend too long at the computer these sunnier and warmer days and it needs a sustained effort to improve.
