Austrian.

Born 1798 in Berlin [From Austrian Parents?] Died 1858 Istanbul
He worked as a pharmacist in Fiume [now Rijeka Croatia 14'26'10.71E. 45'19'43.81n altude 12meters] then part of the Austra Hungeran empire
1844 Settled in Istanbul Turkey becoming director of the Botanic Garden of the Êcole Impériale de Médicine de Galata Serai.1
Most of his experditions were made up to 1854
Collected 1840's [late] From lake Van Turkey [42'53'49.55E. 38'39'58.12N elevation 1645meters].
Specimens of Fritillaria kurdica [See fritillariaicones.com/info/names/pup] collected by Noề from the above site were used by Boissier to describe the plant.



Associated with; Josef Ullepitsch (1827-1896) an official in the financial administration of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire and amateur botanist,

1, Êcole Impériale de Médicine de Galata Serai. This school was founded at Galataseray, [now Galatasaray Lise] Istanbul by the Sultan Beyazit 11 in the 16th century, as the places school for royal pages and future administrators of the Ottoman empire.

which seems to say (?? 40+ years since I did any German) much the same thing - he lived and collected in Fiume and the nearby coast / islands (The Quarnero), where he made many finds and established a herbarium. Later moved to Constantinople as Director of Museums and Gardens - and also botanised in Asia Minor and Babylon - establishing extensive and worthwhile collections.
