There are a number of Mason labels similarly inscribed 'Dicks H S' or 'Dicks Hort S...' followed by a similar serial number. I have wondered whether it suggests either cultivated, or Hortus Siccus; and have not been able to get any further - unless there is someone called Dick or Dickson?

Mason was known to acquire others' herbaria, and "Dick. Hort. Sicc." sounds like one of them.

Britten & Boulger list a number of names of which "Dick." may be an abbreviation.

If "Dick." is posted as an ex herb, a pattern might emerge giving clues as to his identity.
