N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

His year of death is given as 1941 (on the database), but there is no record for Helsby in that year.
1940 is nearest - and that "I. Helsby" died in Watford Registration District.

Yes - looking at the distribution of his sheets - the "epicentre" is roughly that area.

There is a Sandy Lodge (now a golf course) at TQ0993 next to Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood, and close to Oxhey which, judged by its position at the centre of concentration of Helsby's records, I hazard to have been his home patch.

If the Watford Helsby is the right one, then his profession was recorded as a draughtsman / engineer in various census returns. Place of birth - Lancashire.
He lived at Kingsfield Road, Watford and probate was granted to Frederick George Helsby and Elizabeth Helsby.

You're right, I must have gone round in so many circles trying to find it that I lost track of the original!
So it could be either location, unless we can find out more about him.

If the Watford Helsby is our one then that does seem more likely, not that Sandy is very far away though.

Brassica rapa L. http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/312954/ was also collected by Helsby in "May 1922" at Hamper Mill which is the other side of the A4125 from Sandy Lodge.

Not quite QED but halfway there!
