N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Not sure whether Beeby or Baker refer to the herbarium or the collector. This is not made clear on the label.

I'm a newcomer myself but this might help. The stamp Herb W H Beeby indicates the herbarium. I would think J G Baker is the collector as he has signed the notes. The letter in front of his name may be 'l' signifying 'legit' (collected).
The identity seems to have been determined by W. M Rogers and this goes in after the taxon name (click on the ... symbol to get an additional menu and choose identified by).

I actually can't update the record. When I click edit there is a note saying that the specimen has been allocated to another user. Is this normal or have I done something wrong?

That's funny, I haven't seen that before. However, it looks as though the allocation ends today.
