Thomas Sansom

Mr Thomas Sansom (1818-1872) Thomas Sansom (1818 - 1872). In the 1830's/40's he was resident in Islington, London – as indicated by an entry from records of the Botanical Society of Edinburgh (in which he is listed as a contributor); this is also confirmed by records in the 1841 Census. The various census returns indicate that he was born in Islington. He worked as a clerk in HM Customs.
He was made an A.L.S in 1843 (possibly acted as their Librarian?) and was a member of the Botanical Society of London (1837 - 51).
In 1861, he was resident in Liverpool.
He was friends with Bean and Brent; together they gathered soecimens for a herbarium. He contributed significantly to Dickinson's Flora of Liverpool , which can be accessed at archive.org see http://www.archive.org/stream/floraofliverpool00dickuoft#page/n6/mode/1up/search/sansom
He was especially interested in mosses.
and contributed a number of papers to the Liverpool Literary and Philosophical Society.
In 1871, he was living at Swain Terrace, Newcastle on Tyne with his wife Isabella, and 5 children. He died in Newcastle in the first quarter of 1872, and his wife moved to Hampshire (as recorded in the 1881 census).
