N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

The deleted words are Grey Seg (Sedge) and I suspect Darlington. On a similar sheet, l'Anson has used D as an abbreviation for Darlington: http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/382496/ and on another he's written Seg. The only reference I can find to Drop well, is Dropswell Farm, far to the NE near Hurworth Burn Reservoir, NZ392338. I think Brunton is probably not the collector, but has written the identification note which has been stuck over l'Anson's identification

The History and Antiquities of the Parish of Darlington page 38 refers to a well thus:

Nessfield appears on the OS 1st edition at what is now NZ300155. The pages following the above describe a railway bridge on the York and Newcastle line crossing the Skerne near the Drop-well, so presumably that at OS NZ297160.

That's fantastic and also confirms the county of l'Anson's Darlington is Durham. I see pools on the map, with one nearby called Rock Well.
