N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Although these sheets have been edited to name 'J B Davies' none of them (nor one of Langley Kitching's) shows anything other than the initials J B D

The 'J D B' of Helsby sheets (and others) frequently collected in southern Scotland and the English midlands, so surely more likely to be John Bishop Duncan (born & worked Moffat, then Stratford upon Avon, Birmingham, & Bewdley; retired to Berwick upon Tweed) than 'J B Davies'.

The J B Davies entry is from Kent&Allen where the '[>?]' entry in the notes field indicates that the person was thought to be alive when the book was published (1984).

In the printed version of K&A, 1984, it says 'DAVIES, J. B., of Keswick—> AMP (Ampleforth area).' AMP indicates the herbarium of Ampleforth College (OS SE5978; VC62 NE Yorks.)

There was a J. B. Davies of Botanical Society of Edinburgh publishing in the Phytologist 1852 on subjects relating to Cumberland (N. D. Simpson’s Bibliographic Index to the British Flora, 1960). Referred to frequently in 'A Flora of the English Lake District' J. G. Baker, 1885.

Confusion may arise from the fact that a 'J. B. Davies Senior Biology Master' at AMP describes the state of the herbarium in the BCG Newsletter 1978.

I am informed and believe that towards the end of C20th J B Davies (c.1920-c.2000) arranged for AMP to be transferred to York University to ensure its preservation.
