N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

'Fletcher' has 134 specimens in h@h from all over Britain, and abroad. Is he the same person as Dr Harold Roy Fletcher, who has 9 specimens

No.

Dr Harold Roy Fletcher F.R.S.E (14/4/1907-27/8/1978) was Keeper of Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh, 1956-1970.

Two years ago the Curator of Botany, Manchester Museum, sent this helpful reply to my enquiry -

"The herbarium accession register records the arrival of E coll Fletcher as chiefly a collection of British flowering plants on the 13th Feb 1905. The accession lot number is K24822 and so if you wish to see an of the other material he left with the museum, you can search here: http://emu.man.ac.uk/mmcustom/NSDtlQuery.php using that accession number. The Annual Report for the Manchester Museum 1904-1905 is a little more useful as it gives his full name as the Rev. Dr. Thomas Fletcher and states that he presented material which was mostly collected by the late Dr. Carrington."

Further enquiries have so far proved fruitless.

Thanks - that fits with Carrington specimens I'm finding, I've re-edited as Thomas Fletcher, and am going through some others. They seemed to be big Potamogeton fans. Unfortunately the situation isn't helped by nearly all the sheets edited as 'Benjamin Carrington', 'Fletcher' or 'Harold Roy Fletcher' being entered without photo

Surely, all that can be inferred from this sheet is that it is ex herb Thomas Fletcher. There is no evidence of who was the collector. The date of accession by MANCH precludes any involvement of H R Fletcher.
