Founded in 1851 the Society is still active (SOCIETY WEB SITE).

Botanical Records

Herefordshire was divided into 14 districts (within 5 areas: South, East, Central, North, West) for the purpose of recording:

There is a MAP showing the districts in the Transactions frontispiece of 1866.

The districts were used in A FLORA OF HEREFORDSHIRE by William Henry Purchas and Augustin Ley, 1889. They were also used in Ley's ADDITIONS TO THE FLORA OF HEREFORDSHIRE 1894 where there are frequent references to 'New District' records, abbreviated to 'N D' this can also appear on Ley's herbarium labels: 600px
